Cedarwoods Comfortably Numb

Cedarwoods Comfortably Numb (Lido) is a tale of two dogs.

First is the field dog. Lido was the recipient of many great traits passed on from his mother, Prairie Trout’s Rambunkous. He hits the ground with an intensity that is infectious, a drive that is always looking to the next hill or piece of cover, and a gait that makes it all look effortless. He hunts with such enthusiasm and joy, it’s easy to catch yourself smiling while busting cover. Whether it’s sharptail, pheasant, huns, grouse or desert quail, his point is always with quivering intensity.

Take one look at his mother’s water entry, and it’s easy to see where Lido gets it from. There is nothing gentle about it, only a 55lb missile being launched at Mach Ten. Would it be easier to test a dog that doesn’t land fully submerged at each duck search and marked retrieve? Probably, but that wouldn’t be as entertaining. He enjoys stealing every retrieve possible, and tends to flaunt his prize when delivering to hand.

On the flip side is a dog that is the most pathetically lazy indoor critter you’ve ever seen. Good luck prying him off his dog bed. And if there is a human nearby, he is either sitting on their feet or curling into their lap. A COVID puppy that grew up in my wife’s home office, I know he’s not really my dog, but I carry the gun so he reluctantly leaves my wife at home for our trips.
