PALADINS CANNONADE

Paladins Cannonade (Molly) is Natural Ability Prize I dog. She is product of our “C” litter. She is out of PALADINS ALL IN by OXBOW’S BIG GUN. Molly lives with my friend, Brent Trickel. She lives in the house full-time and gets to hunt more than most.

When we were in KY getting Paladins All In (Nelli) bred to Oxbow’s Big Gun (Goat), we toured the Church Hill Down’s Kentucky Derby museum. The tour guide encouraged us to look up the horse that won during our birth year. For my birth year, 1974, a horse named Cannonade won it. A Paladin is an artillery piece. Artillery pieces are sometimes called big guns. Oxbow’ Big Gun (Goat) got his name from the call sign (Big Gun) of his owner’s Attack Battalion during the Iraq surge. He got “Goat” when he returned. Cannonade means – a continued discharge of big guns “cannons”, especially during an attack. All the names will start with a C for the third litter produced by our kennel. PALADINS CANNONADE

An examination of Molly’s  pedigree provides an easy explanation as to why she is destined to create a lasting legacy. Molly’s Coefficient of Inbreeding is 16.75% which makes her a solidly linebred dog. While great dogs do come from outcrossed pairings, the odds tilt heavily in the favor of the pup whose ancestors were both related and above average performers, and Molly’s pedigree reads like a who’s who of the foundational dogs from the influential Cedarwood kennel. Through using BreedMate software, NAPPA members are able to calculate the Coefficient of Relationship for a dog. This calculation is the percentage of genes an ancestral dog contributes to a pup. Consider for a moment the Coefficient of Relationship for some of the dogs in Molly’s Pedigree…
