Congratulations to NAPPA’s own VC SAFARI SOUTH’S AXEL on becoming a Versatile Champion. Owned and handled by Kevin Boswell. He is out of KILLBUCK’S II OTHELLA BELLA and sired by CEDARWOODS IMAGE OF TUKR.

According to Kevin, Axel has been the smartest, easiest dogs I have ever trained. He hits the water hard, great range in the field…and most important for my wife..LOL…is a wonderful house dog. Safari South’s Axel achieved a 112 NA in less than a year, Prize 1 UT, 198, at 19 months…and Axel passed with a 194 at 2 yrs, 11 months.. the youngest to pass this year.

Axel’s prodigy is on track to high performance also. Although only two of his pups have been tested, they were both Prize I NA dogs. More importantly, his pups have already started turning heads while hunting and he is passing on a dense harsh coat.

Axel’s sire, CEDARWOODS IMAGE OF TUKR, owned by NAPPA breeder Bob Farris, produced 55 dogs that were NA tested with an average of 106.4 points. In addition, 6 UT dogs and now one VC.

Axel’s dam, KILLBUCK’S II OTHELLA BELLA, owned by NAPPA breeder Lee Branch, produced 9 dogs that were NA tested with an average of 108.8 points. In addition, 1 UT dog and now one VC.

A 1700 mile round trip to make Molly x Axel mating happen. Was it convenient? No. Are there closer options? Yes. It’s just that in my opinion this is best match for this dog. I made this decision even before he was a VC. From reports from the field, Axel’s pups are kicking ass!

An examination of Axel’s pedigree provides an easy explanation as to why he is destined to be an outstanding performance dog. A true “Ferrari” of gun dogs. Axel’s Coefficient of Inbreeding is 11.5% which makes him conservatively linebred. Through using BreedMate software, NAPPA members are able to calculate the Coefficient of Relationship for a dog. This calculation is the percentage of genes an ancestral dog contributes to a pup. Consider for a moment the Coefficient of Relationship for some of the dogs in Axel’s Pedigree.
